Lost interest in Second Life : The end of this blog

Lost interest in Second Life : The end of this blog
By Wesley Regenbogen
Unfortunately, I'm posting now that I lost interest in Second Life.
I haven't been in Second Life for a while now and I made the decision to stop this blog.
I hope you all understand it.
I'm just more active on computerforums these days and also play The Sims 2 often.
The decision doesn't reflect on me being angry at anyone, that's not the case.
I just decided to not go on Second Life anymore.
It's sad to say goodbye to you all now.
Thank you all for the interest in my blog.

Apologies to all the readers for the lack of content recently
By Wesley Regenbogen

I would like to apologise to all my readers about the lack of content on my blog recently.
This was due to RL stuff and the fact that I don't often visit Second Life anymore.
I'm also active on different computerforums as well.
I hope you will all understand it and hopefully I will post something interesting on my blog soon.
Thank you all for understanding.

Sincere greetings,

Wesley Regenbogen

Surf City : A Second Life Surfer's Paradise

Surf City : A Second Life Surfer's Paradise
By Wesley Regenbogen

A long time ago I met up with Robin Mapp.
He is the owner of Surf City in Second Life.
Surf City has a beautiful beach and also a shop with everything that a surfer needs.
It's a wonderful place to walk around in and relax if you want to.
So, if you need a place to relax and buy some surfer's stuff, only one place to go : Surf City.
Surf City is the nice place and I enjoyed my stay there.
The shop has many items you can buy.
Ranging from sunglasses to surfboards and t-shirts to almost anything else.

Lost Link Island : Relaxing beach

Lost Link Island : Relaxing beach
By Wesley Regenbogen

Are you looking for a place to relax or do you want go kiteboarding or windsurfing ?

Then Lost Link Island ( LLI ) is the place you need to be at.

Lost Link Island offers the ability to relax and gives you the chance to visit the beach.

You can also take a boat ride and have a look at the many shops that are present and buy surf stuff and much more.

The amazing part is that the beach is beautifully rendered and that there are even things present that you would find on a real life beach as well.

This is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the beach in it's fullest glory.

If you are bored in Second Life, this place is the place to be at, because you can sit down and relax while enjoying the view of the beach.
Or if you are into kiteboarding or windsurfing, you can do that at Lost Link Island as well.

To do this, first do this :

Go down to the beach area and click the ball near the kiteboard and windsurfboard.

It will give you a new item called “kiteboarding” or something like that.

The go to your inventory and find the new object.

Right-click it and choose “Wear”.

You won't see anything on your avatar or anything, this is due to the fact that it's invisible and allows you to click on the kiteboard or windsurfboard and use it.

Your avatar will now be on the kiteboard or windsurfboard.
Navigate using the arrow keys and enjoy it !

Here's a picture of me kiteboarding :

Sliterary : The home of writers around Second Life !

Sliterary : The home of writers around Second Life !
By Wesley Regenbogen

A long time ago, I met up with Jilly Kidd in Second Life.
Jill Kidd is the owner of Sliterary, the place where writers from all over Second Life unite.
I met her a long time ago and she told me she now had a place where writers can come and write.
Even virtual journalists are able to have a virtual office there for free.
Yes, you saw that right : for free !
This is because Sliterary is a non-profit organisation that offers writers all over Second Life the chance to meet with eachother and discuss their ideas and get to know eachother.
I really like the way that Jilly Kidd has offered people the opportunity to let writers all over Second Life have a place to come to and talk about our writings or discuss topics concerning writing in general.
If you are a non-Second Life writer, you can also have a look around and meet up with other writers and share ideas and discuss them.
They often hold events for their members.
But there is more, Sliterary is a magazine within Second Life as well.
Writers can contribute to the magazine as well, if they want to.
This is also a whole project and also they have a writer's community.
Jilly Kidd told me they are working on the development of the writer's community.
Also she told me that writers can apply to have a free office at Sliterary.
Ina Centaur is the owner of Sliterary.

Belgian radio station Q-Music has it's own city in Second Life

Belgian radio station Q-Music has it's own city in Second Life
By Wesley Regenbogen

The real life Belgian radio station Q-Music has it's own city in Second Life.
I found the Q-Music City a while ago on my explorations on Second Life.
I don't listen to that radio station in real life, but it was worth a visit and enjoy chatting with the people that were around when I was.
Nevertheless, it's a nice place to walk around in and meet Belgian people there ( and from other countries as well, of course )
I have seen many real life firms or things from real life come to Second Life.
Finally, firms and other companies have found their way to Second Life.
That's a good thing, of course.
Because then firms can “test”their products in Second Life, before producing it in real life.
The fact that radio stations find their way to Second Life, really shows that there is an interest from them to have a place in Second Life.
Hopefully they will benefite from their presence in Second Life or at least get some new listeners to their radio station.
Q-Music is well known in Belgium.
I'm not that kind of a radio listener myself. I sometimes listen to radio on the web, but not commercial radios, like this one.
Everybody has their own taste, right ?

Second Life Speech Tools by Jarek Déjàvu

Second Life Speech Tools by Jarek Déjàvu
By Wesley Regenbogen

As announced on Linden Labs blog, voice is coming to Second Life soon.

In Second Life there is already a company that is developing software to do just that.

It's called Second Life Speech Tools and it converts your text to speech and when you talk with your headset it will convert it to text in Second Life.

First they will lauch their software for Windows users.
Other platforms might come in a later stadium of development.

Jarek Dejavu lives in Czech Republic.

This software is the interface between Second Life and Microsoft Speech API.

The software works well with the Second Life client and the computer voices are good.

Also speech recognition is available within the software package.

This allows you to talk to the Second Life client without using the keyboard.

Future versions might have even more features that are being developed.

I had the chance of trying out Second Life Speech Tools and it's a nice product to work with.

At the website Second Life.sk you can find out more about this software product.
